We have had a wonderful first day in Prague. The hotel is first class with excellent service, a large room with a view of the river. There was a magnum of champagne waiting for us in the room wishing us a happy anniversary from the manager. It was a very nice touch. Most of the day was spent in the Jewish Quarter and in the Old Town. We hired a private guide (that is the norm here) and she was terrific. We walked for 5 hours all around the old quarter and into museums. The city is rich with history. We saw an exhibit of drawings done by children in Terezin and they were very moving. We will visit Terezin on Monday. But, like everywhere we found a Hard Rock CafĂ©, McDonalds, KFC and Starbucks. Our hotel is in a shopping neighborhood with Prada, Zenga, Boss and the like. Last night we ate traditional Czech food – sausage, sauerkraut, cabbage, duck, ham, potatoes. Not too healthy, but very good.
